| West part of Skagit
County is noted
for Tulip and Daffodil fields in April. Fields are located west
of
Mt. Vernon and around Laconner. Many along Mclean Road.
Tulips
are a big tourist draw during the 2 week tulip festival.
Bicyclists
enjoy touring the fields. We ride along the shoulder past cars
that
are waiting in festival traffic.
Daffodils are less noted, but stay in the fields longer. Tulips are chopped off to strengthen the bulbs while daffodils are allowed to stay until the flower perishes; its bulb doesn't require the flower to be chopped off for the bulb to mature. Photos by region, by subject, contact. Picture of me in tulip field, April 2004.
