I visited a friend in St. Cloud, Minnesota during my 1993 trip, she took
this picture of me with my fully loaded bicycle. Notice wastepaper
baskets for panniers. This was the system I used back then.
Tent, sleeping bag, tarp and a few other things were piled on top in back.
A tupperware type box in front held things for ready access; such as maps
and camera. Foam pads on front low rider racks protected large pop
bottles that were strapped to the racks on both sides; an inexpensive way
to carry lots of water. Much of my set up was tied together with
bungy cords and duct tape.
