A textbook example of "entrenched meanders." Long ago, the river meandered through a flat area. Later the land rose around it and the river slowly cut through the rising landscape to maintain its old course. See also 2007 raft trip down Yakima River. Friends in Yakima invited me along for raft rides when I was there in 1991 and in 2007.
