| Palouse Hills
Riding through the rolling Palouse wheat ranching country of south east Washington can be a real treat. Hills of rich black soil, that blew in during the ice ages, look like sand dunes. Wheat, peas and lentils are harvested. In the fall, giant combines can be seen working the steep hillsides. Scroll Down. |

| Could be the nightmare of
environmentalists, a concrete river. The Palouse River, through Colfax,
Washington, is confined to a cement ditch. It was built, I think,
during the early 60s before the advent of things like environmental impact
statements. River built for flood control.
Looks like some natural algae is trying to break its way out of the narrow confines. This photo was taken summer 1999. |
