Motels and hotels are really expensive in the heart of San Francisco.  It was early in the day so I kept riding, out toward Daily City.

In the southwest part of the Sunset District, I found a place called the "Sunset Motel."  Reasonably priced, by S.F. standards.

Comfortable room and (just like I was hoping) right on the transit line to downtown.   I left my bike safely locked in the room.

That's the way to "do San Francisco."  Find a reasonably priced motel in the "bland outskirts," then take the train back downtown.  The Muni Train ran, I think, every ten minutes.

$1.50 got me through the tunnel under Twin Peaks and Market Street; into the heart of the city.

I don't know how late Muni runs, but there were plenty of trains going through when I left the Castro Street area, around 11:30 PM.

Muni Train in Sunset District
The train is a good way to go downtown.

It was a Monday night when I was in the city.  Not the busiest time for Castro's famous gay bars, but still, "even on a Monday," people were dancing.

On a weekend one might have to wait in a long line and pay a high cover charge at the dance spot I stepped into.  On Monday, it had plenty of room and was very welcoming.  No cover either.  Felt like walking into a giant red strobe light.  The dance floor had energy; not bad for early Monday evening.

Usually I find bars to be cliquish, so I don't go often.  This was a "must do" since it's kind of a famous spot.

A cute young Russian struck up conversation with me.   He, also, was a tourist in the city and didn't already have some click of "built in" friends around him.

We talked and danced a bit.  Neither of us were into that "hard core go to the motel and have sex" mode.  It was a fun dance and good conversation.

We both left the Castro early, by Castro standards.  Continuing on our different trips the next day.
