| From my motel
room, in the southwest part of San Francisco, it was an easy ride to
Highway 35, Skyline Blvd., out of the city. Climbing high up into the San Bruno Mountains, some very good bike paths begin not too far out of Daily City. One travels from fog to sunshine and along reservoirs. I stayed on Skyline and climbed some more. Maybe I should have taken Canada Road, instead, but this trip was different from 2004. Anyway, if I had taken the flatter Canada Road, I would have gotten to Woodside too soon and missed the greatest coincidence of my trip. I stopped at Alice's Restaurant, in Woodside, CA. and there was Jim Sullivan, who used to live in Bellingham! "Fancy meeting you here." He moved to the Bay Area in 1999. Still works at cleaning espresso machines. Happened to be working in that restaurant as I stopped there for lunch that day. 2006 Trip Next |
![]() ![]() Small world. I am pictured on left. Sullivan was active in Bellingham's Mount Baker Bicycle Club and the local mountain bike scene. Galbraith Mountain, near Bellingham, was one of his old haunts. Now he is contributing to bike politics in the Bay Area. Good to see him again. |
