Foggy graveyard in Mendocino, CA.

The radio brought news of a double murder on the beach near Jenner, CA. No suspect, or motive, was found.  The victims were two christian camp counselors traveling by car.

Not really related to bicycling, but this gave some folks pause about camping along the coast.

There was no string of ongoing murders.  Also it didn't take place in a state park campground.  Still, some cyclists started staying in motels.

I remember a murder in the news that happened in Bellingham just before I left.  One might not be safe staying home either.

As I stopped in Jenner for a snack, another cyclist was passing through.  He said he was starting to stay in motels for a while.

Tombstones in fog.

By coincidence, it was in Jenner that I heard his horrific story.  Riding in the fog by Crescent City, he heard the sound of a horrendous crash.  Just the sound, but nothing could be seen through the fog.  As he got closer, several cars were stopped with people dialing 911 on cell phones.

It was a huge head-on accident.

He kept going, rather than join the crowd of citizen responders. There were enough people at the scene.

After that, the road was an eerie quiet.  Closed for several hours.  A day or so later, he heard that 3 people had died.

Except for hearing these spooky stories, my trip was not that scary.

One night, while sleeping all alone, the sound of footsteps woke me up.  It was raccoons.
