Color code alert. Nothing new from Homeland Security.  The forest service has been using a similar system for years to depict fire danger.

My brother, who lives in Ashland, OR. suggested a different route from Canyonville to Medford. Rather than following I-5, through Grants Pass, why not head east to Tiller, OR. along Highway 227?  Then drop south into Medford?  Like going around the other sides of a square, it would not be much farther.  Instead of going south and then east, I would just go east and then south.

That was a good idea. Practically no traffic.  Much of the way was good biking shoulders.  There was one long pass to climb, rather than I-5's two slightly shorter passes.

Came into Medford by way of Shady Cove which is along the Rogue River.
