Santa Fe Depot.  Train was to leave just after 6 am next morning.

I decided to mail my stuff.  Next I placed bike in a large box that Amtrak sells.

Peddles must be removed and handlebars turned sideways.  After 2,000 miles of riding, these can be stuck in position.  The nearest bike shop was about 5 miles away.  I am glad I didn't go to Tijuana.  Had plenty of time to get ready.  Bike shop loosened things up so I could ride, carefully, back to the station and remove things with my small tools.

Train ride back, up the west coast, took two days.  It was enjoyable, in its own way, but I don't sleep well on train.  Felt more rested at end of bike ride than at end of train trip.  Roomettes can improve sleeping, but they are often booked, unless one makes reservation way ahead of time.

Better to go north on the train.  Summer wind tends to be out of north making biking that direction problematic.
