| It's true.
I saw quite a few RVs pulling SUVs. Life in the mainstream can be
extravagant, but this way of living might be less expensive than renting
a small apartment in San Francisco.
If one can find affordable places to park; for instance spending much of one's time in Wyoming; RV living makes economic sense. People often take to the road for retirement. Too bad so many things that make economic sense don't make environmental sense. Small spaces, in many cities, where people don't have to drive, are becoming too expensive. Environmentalists should be outraged, but few will think of it this way. |
![]() In the 1960s, San Francisco flower children questioned wealth and materialism. Today, the city is still considered "left leaning," but it is about the most expensive housing market in USA. When people burn a lot of gas, are they snubbing the environment, or are they just coping with urban land values that have gone out of control? Many years ago, my uncle lived near a neighborhood where people owned private planes. They commuted, over 100 miles, to San Francisco for work. Some subdivisions had wide roads for taxiing planes. This was where the wealthy lived. When one commutes that far, the plane is the way to go; or maybe high speed trains if we had them, but we don't. Now days, I hear people are living in that area because they can't afford to be closer in. No longer the wealthy, poorer folks are living way out, in many cases. Instead of going on planes, they have to get up at 4 am to commute by car. |
