Both Rick and me have been to San Francisco, on other trips.  We just got on a bike lane that basically skirts one around downtown on the Embarcadero.

We did stop long enough for Rick to fit his helmet on the head of dog that was leashed to the bike rack in front of Presidio YMCA.

Rick had a friend in Mountainview that we could stay with for the night.  We ended up putting our bikes on the Caltrain for a few miles.
